The new iPod Nano

The new iPod nano is a much more improved version of the old nano. I think apple realised they had made a big mistake when they released the first nano as it was easily scratched and I mean really easily. Anyway lets get to the point.

Screen

The screen is basically the same but they've improved the brightness, which means the photos look nicer. It also means the menus and writing look clearer and crisper. The screen is also much less scratchable

Design

Apple have really learnt from their mistakes and have produced something much more sensible and less scratchable. They've gone back to the good old ipPod mini design meaning that they can reintroduce the colours, shape and popularity all over again. Only this time in a smaller thinner state. The aluminium casing seems more stable in your pocket and because it's less scratchable it saves you running to the shops for a case to protect it.

Battery life

Now the old nano lets face it had a pretty poor battery life. It couldn't really handle the constant scrolling through songs and the only way it could last was really just putting it on shuffle. The new nano has 24 hours battery life and it lives up to its claim. While using it I found it easy to scroll through songs for at least half an hour before the bar went down a small margin. Apple has finally found out how to maximise the battery life!

Memory

Well we've talked about the improvements but now the real breakthrough is yet to come. First there was the 1gb nano, then the 2gb, and then the 4gb but now they've managed to push it up to 8gb, yes 8! And they've still managed to keep the size and shape the same. So now you can carry 2,000 songs in your pocket as well as around 25,000 photos. Pretty neat if you ask me.

Features

Hardly any of the features have changed but they have added a search option to the music area. This let's you type in a song or artist so you can find it quickly. Of course this is probably meant for the video ipods but it's still pretty useful.

Conclusion

Overall the new nano is a big improvement. They've redesigned it from the ground up and produced a much more scratch resistant model as well as better battery life. Following from this they've bought back the colours that were so popular with the ipod and best of all made an 8gb model for those who need that extra bit of space.
