Nintendo DS Lite Review

Written By: benc
The Nintendo DS Lite is the new and improved original. The system is 20% lighter and 2 thirds smaller than the first DS.

Screens

The screens of the
DS Lite are so much brighter than the original and have 4 brightness settings. The original ds doesn't even compare to the brightness. The new screens offer much more colour to games and because of this games seem so much more bright and vibrant. The DS Lite and the PSP have had a long war about which is brighter. From sources I have heard people say the DS Lite is brighter but other say that the PSP is brighter. At the end of the day its personal opinion.

The Layout

The DS Lite has been completely redesigned. The buttons are set out differently in that the start and select buttons have been moved. The power button has now been moved to the side. The microphone has also been moved into a much more sensible place in the middle panel of the DS so that your fingers don't cover the microphone like the old design. The stylus has also been repositioned to the side and is now slighter longer and thicker for better grip and comfort.

Feel

The DS Lite is much nicer to hold and because it is so much lighter and smaller you don't feel like your holding a brick. The design has been thought about carefully so that you feel comfortable holding it. The whole system is just easier and more pleasant to play with.

Look

The look of the DS lite is much nicer than the original. Who they hired I don't know but this is a big step forward from the normal bad design of Nintendo products. The new design seems to have been ipod inspired in that it has a crystal and transparent look to it. They have even put a GBA filler in to stop the dust from gathering when your not playing GBA games. This is probably to maintain the sleek design.

Size

Now I said earlier that the DS Lite is smaller than the original but it has also been put against Sony's PSP. Both systems are basically the same, which settles that debate.

Conclusion

Overall the DS Lite is a much better improvement from its original. It's smaller, brighter and lighter. Its touch screen technology has made it possible to invent much more interactive games and the fact that it can play GBA games (like the original) makes the catalogue of games so much more vast. It's a thumbs up from me and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants the latest gadget and technology.
